We are touched by the efforts being made around the world to assist those with this disability. One of the shining lights in this progressive effort to work with those afflicted by Autism is the Giant Steps Sydney School in Sydney, Australia. Giant Steps Sydney is a school located in Gladesville catering specifically for children with autism. The program at Giant Steps Sydney is trans-disciplinary, which includes high-level intensive programs for children and young people aged 2-18 years of age. A trans-disciplinary approach is one that combines Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy and Music with teaching and education in consultation with parents. All students engage in a full range of activities that are adjusted using a range of autism friendly strategies

Giant Steps Sydney has had remarkable success teaching children with autism to communicate more effectively, integrating them into mainstream schools, helping them develop functional life skills and providing them the opportunity to reach their potential. The additional support offered at Giant Steps Sydney caters specifically to the needs of children with autism thereby enabling our children to achieve milestones previously thought unattainable.

"There Is So Much I Can Do"

Poem text:

I havent always been good at social interaction
Having Autism since I was two
This caused some sort of distraction
Having highly repetitive behavior too

I guess my interests were restricted
And I was lacking in communication
This diagnosis left my parents conflicted
And They searched for some explanation

I have Autism but I feel just fine
I'm as happy as a child can be
Maybe there's a disorder in my mind
But that's no reflection on me

I can still play and I can still learn
But it still gets my parents down
Maybe there's some need for concern
But one day a cure will be found

I am an Autistic child it’s true
But this has been my stance
There is so much I can do
When I get the chance
