Who Is The Father In Your Fathers Day?
Many countries around the world celebrate some type of Fathers Day. For the United States and many other countries that celebration occurs annually on the 3rd Sunday in June. For Australia Father’s Day occurs on the First Sunday in September. It seems like Fathers Day has been around forever but in fact it has only been a certified holiday in the United States since 1972. It took over sixty years to achieve this special day for Dads; Mothers Day had been a holiday since 1914 in the USA. Today, most of the world honors their Mothers and Fathers in some way. No one Father is the same. Our Fathers mean something different to all of us.

Today the rules of parenting have altered in some areas of the world. In some homes both parents have to work make ends meet. It is much harder for Mothers to stay at home and be a house wife. Therefore, parenting roles have changed as well. Many Fathers have to attend to the daily chores that may have solely been Mothers decades ago. Fathers use to be the sole disciplinarians. The phrase “Wait until your Father gets home” used to send shivers up many a child’s spine.
The Father has always been thought to be the sole provider in a home. In many cases they still are. To this day many men work their fingers to the bone trying to provide a life for their families. Some men worked so hard that their kids felt like they rarely seen them growing up. It was not unusual for Fathers to sacrifice this part of their life. Somehow, Dads always found sometime to spend with their kids.
Some Fathers may be open and playful. Others may be very quiet and distant at times. But regardless of the type of Father we have they are always our Fathers. As a Father I know that fathering is a full time job. I perceived my Father in one way and I am sure my children perceive me in another. It is important that we never forget what our Fathers have done for us. They deserve a special day. They deserve to be honored and remembered.
Only you can decide who the Father is in your Fathers Day. It is you that has to search the memories stored in the cobweb filled storage bin in your mind and determine what your Father meant to you. That way when Fathers Day rolls around you can let him know how special he is to you.
