A Grandpa is like a diamond
Many years form this treasure
Just like wine is better with age
This love we cannot measure

A Grandpa provides stories
A wisdom grown in living
A Grandpa does not judge
But finds solace in giving

A Grandpa is special
We hate to see them go
But we cherish their memory
And we love them so

Not just a father was he
But a daddy and a friend
Even when he punished me
The purpose had an end

He traded away his youth
Worked hard day and night
Dedication revealing truth
To raise his children right

One of the last of a generation
Of fathers tough and true
Earned our respect and admiration
Like good role models do

His time on earth has ended
And although I’m empty and sad
Wounds are somehow mended
With loving memories of my dad

I remember that day so well
It is cemented in my mind
I still hear that church bell
It sends shivers up my spine

As I stood there full of sorrow
Prepared to bid you farewell
Memories of strength I would borrow
I know you taught me well

As they placed you in the ground
My tears I could not deny
They fell to earth without a sound
The day I said goodbye

I find myself lost in memory
When quiet moments allow
Remembering special moments
That we shared together

Like when we worked side by side
The talks that we had
Those times that you opened up
And shared your soul

You will always be my hero Dad
I miss you everyday
Your life was not in vein
I remember Dad

My heart still aches in your passing
The emptiness I feel unrelenting
You were always there for me mom
I found refuge in your compassion
I am confronting reality now
This permanent separation
I think of you everyday mom

So many times I picked up the phone
Wanted to tell you something new
Then I remember you’re not there
Confronting reality requires faith
That you live in my heart and soul
And that one day we will be together again
